Favicons and Logos

Your logo tells a story about your business in a single graphic. The colours, fonts, and symbols that you choose express your values in a concise way.

If your logo is truly distinctive and your brand is very well-known, it may be recognizable on its own without your company name.

How many of these logos did you recognize? I recognized 27 out of 32. Some of them are for companies that don’t operate in Canada, and I still recognized them.

Design principles for logos

It should express your values – the idea behind the Carnelian logo is that we produce quality websites and products.

It should be scalable – it should look great at any resolution.

It should be memorable – the brain retains visual images better than text.

It should be balanced – one side should not draw more attention than the other.

It helps if your logo is the same length and width, so that they fit neatly into a logo-wall on someone’s website, a favicon, or a social media avatar or profile photo.
