Building Trust

Making your website and emails look professional is a big part of building trust in your business. Sounding human is also a good idea. I am starting to recognize ChatGPT’s writing style—and I don’t like it.

What are the ingredients of a professional website or email?

Branding

Consistent and stylish branding is important. Pick a colour scheme and fonts that reflect your values.

I like serif fonts for headings, and sans serif fonts for body text. Sans serif fonts are more legible for people with dyslexia.

For your colour palette, you need a range of colours with different colour temperatures. Some website building tools offer suggested palettes that you can choose from.

Paletton.com is a great tool for finding complementary colours to go with your main website colour. I just used it to design a new colour palette for this website.

Branding is important for both your website and your emails.

It is a good idea to add your logo, website address, and contact details to your email signature.

You can create a digital business card at Blinq that you can save to your phone’s wallet app, and export the digital business card as an email signature.

House Style

The house style of your website is important to create trust and confidence in your products and services. Use a consistent tone and writing style throughout. If you use Title Case in one heading, use it in all your headings. Use “we” and “you”. Avoid passive voice. Read your writing out loud to see if it is easy to read.

Using AI?

I am not a huge fan of AI, especially when it comes to writing. If you must use AI, use it to suggest refinements to your writing, not to write your entire blogpost, email newsletter, or web page.

Values

Values are not just something that we “set and forget”. We all need to show up for our values every day. That’s why all the testimonials on my website are real. Truth and honesty matter. Caring about other people matters.
