Indigenous Businesses in Ontario

There are quite a lot of Indigenous businesses in the local area, selling a variety of products including art, paints, make-up, food, and more.

Here’s a list which is by no means complete – check out the links at the end for more lists of businesses and events.

Beam Paints is a company on Manitoulin Island making non-toxic plant-based paints.

Cheekbone Beauty is an Indigenous-owned and sustainable cosmetics business in St Catharine’s, Ontario.

Good Minds is an Indigenous book store in Brantford, a leading source of Indigenous education resources for schools and libraries in North America, which promotes Indigenous authors, illustrators and translators. They donate 5% of their sales to the Supporting Indigenous Libraries Today fund.

I am Kitchener hosts an excellent Indigenous Art Market on Gaukel Street in Kitchener on a regular basis. Follow them on Instagram for updates.

Iroqrafts is the largest and oldest arts and crafts store on Six Nations offering the crafts of the Six Nations for their customers since 1959. The store sells books, moccasins, beadwork, and soapstone sculptures.

Luke Swinson is an Anishinaabe illustrator and muralist living in Kitchener, Ontario. He is a member of the Missisaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. He made this incredible sculpture representing Minobimaadiziwin (the good life) in Toronto.

Mishiikenhkwe (Autumn Smith) is an artist from Magnetawan First Nation and an accredited teacher of Anishinaabemowin (the Ojibwe language).

Nish Dish – Indigenous catering is an Anishinaabe company that caters to events and pow wows (they used to have a restaurant but it closed in 2020 due to the pandemic).

Pow Wows: You can support Indigenous artists and creators by attending local pow wows (Conestoga College Pow Wow, Six Nations Pow Wow, Missisaugas of the Credit Three Fires Homecoming Pow Wow, Ode’imin Giizis: Healing Through UNITY Traditional Powwow, Gidinawendamin/Ska’nikú•lát Annual Pow Wow, and more.

Tribal Spirit make drums, leather, moccasins, clothing, and more.
