Supporting independent cafes

Recently a certain well-known coffee chain has launched a promotion supporting a certain well-known transphobic author, so a lot of people are boycotting the well-known coffee chain and supporting independent cafes instead. Accordingly, I have created a list of independent cafes on Google Maps.

Independent cafes in Ontario

I know we are all annoyed with Google Maps for renaming Lake Ontario, but no other mapping app has the option to create your own lists.

Anyway, if you are viewing my list on your phone, you can filter it by women-owned, LGBTQ-friendly, vegan, Francophone, gender-neutral washrooms, dog-friendly, and more. All cafes have an accessibility indicator in the listing, so I did not add a filter for that. I have also added a note for interesting cuisines, availability of kids’ play areas, board games, and other unusual features.

So far I have added 646 cafes, which I think is pretty good going, but if anyone wants to help, drop me a note with the email you use to log in to Google Maps via the Contact page, and I will add you to the map as an editor.
